Vladimir Putin has attacked Donald Trump over the situation in North Korea, saying conflict with nuclear weapons must be avoided.
Tension between the United States and the regime in Pyongyang has been growing as the latter continues its nuclear weapons programme.
Trump has been pushing for the United Nations to impose more sanctions, all the while insisting the US would launch a "major military response" if North Korea continued to threaten it or its allies.
In a press conference, the Russian President attacked Trump's stance on the crisis, saying the step after sanctions would be "an invitation to the cemetery."
Putin expressed his hope the tension would not erupt into a conflict with weapons of mass destruction, saying Kim Jong-un would never agree to give up the weapons.
He stressed a diplomatic solution with Pyongyang was possible.
The American President has not yet responded to Putin's comments.
