Vladimir Putin's spokesman has claimed Russia is not concerned that FBI director James Comey has been fired.

Dmitry Peskov also said that Russia hopes the call to fire Comey won't affect links between the US and Russia in any way.

He went on to call the issue an an "entirely domestic matter" for the United States, according to McClatchy DC Bureau.

Donald Trump sacked Comey over the inquiry into Hillary Clinton's emails. It earlier emerged that he gave inaccurate information to Congress about the investigation.

The White House has said it will begin looking for a replacement for Comey immediately, with Trump vowing to appoint someone "far better."

However, the Democrats claim the real reason for this decision is that the Trump campaign is being investigated for its links with Russia, the BBC reported.
