Former US Presidential candidate John McCain has expressed optimism about his recovery from cancer despite a particularly bleak diagnosis.
The US senator, who represents the state of Arizona, revealed in July he had been diagnosed with a particularly "vicious form" of brain cancer.
However McCain - who served in the US armed forces during the war in Vietnam and was a prisoner of war for seven years - expressed his confidence in a CNN discussion the illness was another challenge that he could beat.
During the interview, he was asked how he wanted people to remember him, and insisted he wanted the public to remember "he served his country."
As he battles the disease, he has not taken sick leave and returns to conduct his work in the US Senate.
