An Alabama farmer whose lesbian daughter committed suicide has said people mustn't vote for Roy Moore due to his homophobic stance.
The farmer, who identified himself as Nathan Mathis, said Moore has referred to people like his daughter as perverts - and this must be opposed.
Moore, who is facing off against Doug Jones in the Alabama senatorial race, faces a string of sexual assault allegations and has also said homosexuality should be made illegal, while calling gay people perverts.
Speaking outside a rally for Moore, hours before polls opened in Alabama today, Mathis said "Roy Moore called [his daughter] a pervert for one reason, because she was gay.
"If he called her a pervert, he'd call your child a pervert if she was gay, or your son was gay. This is something people need to stop and think about."
Mathis continued by saying that the constitution says all people are created equal, and this must be respected.
The interviewee added that he had been anti-gay himself and had said homophobic things in the past, which "I can't take back."
However he continued by saying Moore's comments about homosexuality would definitely have upset his daughter, adding "we don't need a person like that representing us in Washington."
