Russia is likely to respond to Theresa May's hawkish rhetoric in kind, according to an esteemed diplomatic correspondent.
Roger Boyes was speaking to Jamie East and Melanie Sykes after May announced that 23 Russian diplomats would be sent home and Britain would be severing senior diplomatic contact with the Kremlin.
"It looks like we're going to have a deep freeze with Russia for some time to come", Boyes said, adding that we're "ending any kind of high-level relationship with Russia."
Asked whether Russia will take this lying down, Boyes said "no." He added that it's likely Vladimir Putin will expel British diplomats and enact a number of tit-for-tat sanctions in response.
