The woman who fell into the River Thames during the terror attack on Westminster Bridge has been named as Romanian Andreea Cristea.

Cristea has been named by Romanian media. It is not yet clear whether she jumped into the river to escape the attack or fell in, according to The Independent.

Reports claim she had been visiting London to celebrate her boyfriend's birthday.

Romanian Ambassador Dan Mihalache told Realitatea TV last night (March 22) that the woman sustained serious head injuries and her lungs were damaged.

Her boyfriend, who was caught up in the carnage as a car ploughed into pedestrians on the bridge, is said to have suffered a fractured foot.

The Port of London Authority said that once the woman had been pulled out of the water, she underwent urgent medical treatment.

After the attack a London bus driver spoke about the incident, saying: "Once I got everyone off the bus I heard someone shouting that his wife had jumped into the river to avoid getting knocked over."
