Karen Danczuk has wondered why the allegations made against a number of Tory MPs in a WhatsApp group were not reported sooner.
Prime Minister Theresa May has written to Speaker John Bercow in order to acquire the assistance of his office in protecting the reputation of Parliament in the wake of the allegations.
A list of 36 MPs - including 20 Cabinet ministers - who have been accused of improper behaviour towards Tory aides has been published on the Guido Fawkes website.
Karen Danczuk, who spent seven years in Parliament assisting her former husband Simon in his role as a Labour MP, told Julia Hartley-Brewer: "Obviously, if anyone has conducted it, fine, throw the book at them, I don’t condone it whatsoever.
"I think we need to tread carefully – is this sexual harassment or is it only sexual harassment when the said person who wants to engage in this attention doesn’t get their promotion?
"Why just keep it in a whatsApp group? If this is genuinely serious behaviour, I’d report it.
"One thing I know with MPs is they value their job and they’re conscious of what might happen if they cross a certain line."
