You choice of supermarket has long been held up as a marker of social mobility, but whether you push your trolley through Waitrose, Morrisons, Tesco or Lidl, research has shown that living close to a food store is not just convenient but can add thousands to the price of your home.
Property expert and TV presenter Luke Doonan examined the results of a new survey by Lloyds Bank that shows how much value can be added by an easy stroll down the aisle.
"The figures need to be taken with a pinch of salt," he told Julia Hartley-Brewer.
"They’re just general figures, but there’s no doubt that having high-grade supermarkets close by [is a benefit].
"We’re property snobs in the UK. We live in a very commercial, very aspirational society."
