White House confirms Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin had informal talk at G20 after their planned meeting

Sean Spicer said the two leaders had a 'brief' conversation after dinner at the venue in Hamburg

The White House has confirmed Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin had a second conversation at the G20 meeting in Germany.

Reports of a meeting taking place hours after their formal sit-down in Hamburg appeared in American news outlets earlier this week.

This informal chat between the Russian and US Presidents was reported to have lasted an hour.

White House press chief Sean Spicer has confirmed the two leaders had an informal talk after the dinner for the G20 leaders and their partners.

However he denied the claims that it lasted an hour, saying the conversation had been "brief."

Spicer blasted the "insinuation" that the White House had tried to hide a second gathering between the pair, calling it "false, malicious, and absurd."

Trump's interaction with the Russian President received intense scrutiny, given the ongoing investigations and innuendo surrounding alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 election.

The links to Russia held by members of the Trump administration have also come under question, in light of a recent email dump by Donald Trump Jr.
