White House to issue Pentagon with guidelines on transgender military ban

The policy has caused no small degree of controversy

The White House is reportedly ready to issue guidelines to the Pentagon on implementing the transgender military ban.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday the head of government is preparing to direct the Defense Department and give them orders.

Under the new guidelines, Defense Secretary James Mattis would have to evaluate the individual's inability to serve.

The policy caused no small amount of controversy when Donald Trump announced it on Twitter earlier this year.

The US President said he'd come to the decision after consulting with generals and military experts, but many officials expressed surprise at the move.

A number of them openly voiced their disapproval.
