A woman attempted to smuggle six kilograms of cocaine into New York - by hiding it in picture frames.

Fabiola Guerrero Mendoza arrived at John F Kennedy International Airport from Mexico City on Tuesday (March 21), according to UPI.

US Customs and Border Protection services then noticed something odd on a x-ray of three picture frames in her luggage.

It then transpired that 6kg of cocaine had been stuffed inside the frames.

Custom officials said the "passenger thought she had framed a picture-perfect concealment method, however US Customs and Border Protection officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport exposed her plan."

The woman now faces smuggling charges due to the incident.
