Woman in custody after man pushed in front of moving tram in Manchester dies

A woman has been taken into custody after a man was pushed in front of a moving tram in Manchester.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, fell between the platform and the tram at Victoria Station on Sunday (June 11).

Greater Manchester Police were called to the incident just after 7:50pm. Although emergency services tried to treat the man, he died at the scene.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested by police on suspicion of murder at the scene.

Senior investigating officer Bob Tonge said: "This is a tragic event where a man has lost his life and the circumstances surrounding this are being fully investigated.

“We will be questioning the woman in custody later today to ascertain the exact circumstances of how the man came to his death, and my thanks goes to those who witnessed the incident and have got in touch with us – your accounts have been extremely helpful and have meant we have been able to escalate our enquiries quickly.”
