A woman has received a hefty fine for wearing a niqab to a meeting in a town hall in northeast Italy.
The 40-year-old wore the full-body veil to the meeting of the local youth parliament in Pordenone. She was reportedly supervising her 16-year-old son.
When asked to remove the veil in order to be identified, the woman refused to do so, according to the Local Italy.
As a result, she was removed from the meeting by a local police officer.
In an initial tribunal regarding the incident, she was initially sentenced to four months' imprisonment and a €600 fine - but this sentence was later changed into a €30,600 (£26,700) fine with no jail time.
