A woman who was supposed to care for an elderly woman has been handed a prison sentence after taking more than £56,000 from her.
Lesley Smith admitted to taking money from the woman's bank accounts for her own use on regular occasions between March 2011 and January 2016.
The 51-year-old had been given access to the accounts as she was supposed to take charge of her finances and living situation.
She also left the elderly woman in an untidy house which was dirty and cold, Kent Police said.
Little food was left in the house for the woman to eat, yet Smith had taken thousands from the woman.
This was discovered when the elderly woman was visited by someone else who noticed the condition of the house and poor health of the woman.
They informed social services which led to the arrest of Smith, after an investigation.
She has been given a 21-month prison sentence after admitting to fraud by abuse of position this week.
