Britain's former commander in Afghanistan has dismissed a warning made by Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister that the conflict in Syria will lead to World War Three.

As the battle for Mosul carries on, Numan Kurtulmus has said that the conflict in Syria will eventually lead America and Russia to war.

But Colonel Richard Kemp suggested the third global conflict has already begun - in fact it's been raging for 15 years.

"I think we're well into the Third World War," he told James Whale. "The major beginning of WW3 was 9/11.

"I don't subscribe to the view the conflict in the middle-east will lead to nuclear conflict. I don't think it will lead to that, like what some people are predicting.

"We've seen fighting take place in virtually all countries around the world since then, albeit not in a form that we would recognise.

"The modern version of a world war is what we're seeing."
