talkRADIO's showbiz insider Josh Rom took to the blue carpet to find out about the soon-to-be-released movie, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
Last night I was at the European premiere of the new Ted Bundy biopic.
I loved the film for two reasons: Zac Efron and Lily Collins. Both display next-level acting talent that we haven't seen from them before.
As both of the stars made their way down the blue carpet for photos, most people were talking about Efron's striking new blonde hairdo, but I couldn't help wondering how Efron, of High School Musical fame, ended up playing a notorious serial killer.
He grew up in front of millions of kids in the family-friendly franchise spanning three films; he then carried on the typical teen heart throb role in Hairspray and went on to play the jack-the-lad role in numerous comedy films.
The roles were entertaining, yes, but not entirely complex in nature and are certainly not roles the Academy would recognise. However, in the past few years of Efron's career there has been a significant change in the roles he has taken on. Just look at his highly emotive performance in The Greatest Showman.
Ted Bundy is a character in history that continues to amaze and confuse criminologists. He is extraordinarily complex and in order to realistically portray him you need to be one talented actor.
How could a heart throb like Efron display the chops to play a character like this, and with such ease?
Disney's former golden boy with his - let's admit - slightly cringeworthy dance moves still has the sort of charm you would expect, and the fans were (unsurprisingly) going wild. But when I got to speak to him, he was not at all what I expected.
I imagined the star with his hoardes of screaming fans to be self-entitled and cocky, but as I spoke to him, all he did was play the humble card.
He and co-star Collins spoke to the press mostly together. I suspect this is because he hates talking about his earlier films as he desperately tries to distance himself away from his old, shiny boyish image. Plus, he wants the support of Collins.
You could certainly tell they were both excited to be with each other.
Speaking unusually slowly to me, Efron spoke almost entirely of his excitement at starring alongside Collins. He is definitely showing vulnerability on this press tour.
This to me is a game-changing moment in Zac's career and from what I can see, he wants to own it.
