The Big Debate: Are melodies music to your ears, or an infernal racket?

'What a racket!' It's Jon Holmes Big Debate - Do we need music?

"Have you got anything that plays silently?"

Thursday, August 11, 2016

Never one to shy away from a debate, Jon Holmes is always asking the most important questions.

After news that pop star Ed Sheeran is being sued over claims his song Thinking Out Loud 'borrows substantially' from Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, talkRADIO's afternoon show presenter asked whether we really need music at all.

Listener Mariam hates music – it's why she listens to the country's leading talk radio station of course – and blamed it for her kitchen fitters being distracted.

"They put my extractor fan upside down," she exclaimed, adding that her kitchen is now a shambles.

Ronald, on the other hand, loves a good tune – and it turned out Mariam once gave him money for busking.

Of course she was paying him to stop, but he revealed he instead "invested the money in more music".
