The Oscars is one of the most exciting nights of the year for the film industry, but it's certainly no stranger to politics either.

This year's ceremony featured several political statements including some wearing an orange pin calling for gun control and the Time's Up pin against sexual harassment. Even the host Jimmy Kimmel made comments towards Harvey Weinstein as he has been accused of sexual harassment.

The winner of the best actress award, Frances McDormand, asked the other nominees to stand up during her speech and caller on producers to back them, as well as ending her speech with the phrase "inclusion rider," which she later explained meant demanding at least 50% diversity in cast and crew.

If you thought this year's ceremony was political, it's got nothing on some of the statements made in years gone by.
